Week 1 (10.2/10.4)

Thu:      what is electronic media?  Contextuatlisation of architecture and computing.

 


Week 2:(10.9/10.11)

Tue:   Digital Concepts  

Thu:      The architecture of image processing.

Introduce phase one of project

Basic intro to Photoshop.

 


Week3:(10.16/10.18)

Tue:      The Machine: computer hardware, internal operations, storage devices, basic concepts of software, networks, hyper-media, and internet. Selecting a computer to use.

 

Thu:      review printed images and discuss methods of re-working

 


Week4:(10.23/10.25)

Tue:      1- and 2-D Graphics: Paint fundamentals, Photoshop operations, morphing, draft fundamentals, differences between pixel and object-oriented systems, databases, symbols and libraries

Thu:            Principles of electronic modeling/intro phase 2

            Review of phase 1

            Introduction to explicitly 3d tools in form z

            C mesh

            C curve

R:         Optional demo of Maya for advanced students (Erdman or TA)

            Transformation tools:

                        Deformations

                        Rebuilding surfaces

                        Offsets

                        Forming solids from surfaces

                        polygonization

            Moving from 3d-2d: principles of electronic drawing/intro phase 3

            Derivative object modeling:

            Unfolding

            Sweeps

            Extrusions

            Projection

            Moving into FormZ draft, issues of line weight

 


Week6: (11.6/11.8)  Erdman out of town 11.8

Thu:            Principles of Graphic design and presentation/intro to phase 4

            Introduction of techniques by example

 


Week8:  (11.20/11.22)

Tue:      History of CAD and the Practice: automated design, CAD, computers in the office

Thu:      Exercise3

 

 


Week9: (11.27/11.29)

Tue:            Computers and Creative Process: Form related approaches in computational design, typology, transformation (morphing), shape grammars, artificial intelligence approaches to architectural design.

Thu:      desk crits

 


Week 10:  (12.4/12.6)

Printed and electronic files due of phases 1, 2, 3.
