Creator of the Imageland concept with Canon Inc., Kataoka has consulted many companies including Kawai Music, Mitsui Inc., Bell Laboratories, Panasonic Technologies, and Xerox Corporation. He has explored the applications for laser disc technology and aided in the organization of Advertising Satellite Corp. (ADSAT), a new advertising art distribution company which places advertisements via satellite. He has also researched the integration of technologies with graphic design and production at the consumer level, as well as the use of the ink jet for art and design. Kataoka conceived and developed the Irvine Citywide Interactive Cable TV system, a bilingual learning environment and the first of its kind in the United States. In 1988, he formed the multi-billion dollar commercial satellite company Japan Communication Satellite (JCSAT) with Hughes Communications, Mitsui & Co., and C. Itoh. M.A. and B.A., UCLA.
